When I was 12 I took German as my language studies. I stuck with it for two years then opted to learn Latin instead. Yes, Latin, the whole: Veni,Vidi, Veci. Dead language apparently, I can totally understand, conjugating verbs in latin was a recipe for disaster.
Regardless, back to German, to this day I only remember a handful of words and phrases, such as the old faithful " ich liebe dich", Guntentag, scheißkopf (that was fun for a 12 year old girl.. lol look it up) and lastly Tannenbaum. We had to remember the lyrics for that great German Classic Song:
O Tannenbaum, O Tannenbaum
wie treu sind deine Blätter!
Du grünst nicht nur
zur Sommerzeit,
Nein auch im Winter, wenn es schneit.
O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
wie treu sind deine Blätter!
Now that Aedan's advent tree is up, now is time to start thinking about our main Tannenbaum. And as we decided on a theme, we let this year's Tree lead the way..
Gone are the cuddly and soft snow men and Santas of yesteryear, they have been replaced with Squirrels, Hedgehogs, Owls and Robins.

I did want to go more Natural this year, especially as Aedan is absolutely smitten with animals of all kind. Seeing the tree finally decorate and with it's lights on, really does add a bit of a"je ne sais quoi" magical element to the whole christmas feel. This year's Christmas feels less rushed and gimmicky and far more warmer and subdued, I am just glad to say Christmas is finally here at our house.
The one christmas ornament we created ourself was this lovely tactile toadstool. I will write more about it tomorrow, so please make sure to visit us then. For now, I am off to make myself a hot chocolate and speak/sing German to our tree lol
